The Macallan

Two Worlds

The Macallan tapped into two artists—Dave Rife and Gabe Liberti—to create an art installation that focused on the combination of wood and sound. I art directed and designed the branding for the event and also created an interactive website that documented the artists and their process. The challenge on this project was creating something as it was being built, with very limited knowledge of what the final art installation would look like. The installation was hosted at the The Condé Nast Gallery in the World Trade Center.

To evoke the intersection of sound and wood, I chose to combine sound waves and the rings of both wood types chosen by the artists.

The website first introduces the artists, and sets up the process they undertook to create the installation.

I wanted to separate the sculpting process from the other sections, so I incorporated the flakes of wood that were removed during the milling.

The tech behind the sound was divided into two sections: the speakers used, and the components that were attached to the sculpted objects.
